What If Jesus Comes Today? Are You Ready?

WARNING: Jesus Told Us to Be Watchful

Jesus did not hide from His disciples that difficult times would come.

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.”
Matthew 24:6

He also spoke about earthquakes, famines, persecution, deception, and other troubling events.

When we see these things happening around us, it is easy to become afraid and think, “Is this the end?”

But Jesus gave us an important warning:

Do not let fear control you.

We should be aware of what is happening in the world, but we should not pretend that we know exactly when the end will come. No person, leader, prediction, or headline can reveal the exact day of Christ’s return.

Jesus said:

“But about that day or hour no one knows.”
Matthew 24:36

We are called to watch, not to predict.

To watch means to remain spiritually awake. It means not becoming careless, distracted, or so comfortable that we forget God. It means examining our hearts and asking whether our lives reflect the faith we profess.

Are we still praying?

Are we still listening to God’s Word?

Are we still forgiving others?

Are we still walking in obedience?

Are we still trusting Jesus when life feels uncertain?

The warning of Jesus is not meant to destroy our peace. It is meant to bring us back to what matters most.

CARE: What Should We Do When We See Tragedy?

When we see disasters, wars, accidents, and people suffering, our first response should not simply be, “This must be a sign of the end.”

Our response should be compassion.

People are hurting. Families are grieving. Communities are afraid. Some people may be asking questions about life, death, and God. Others may feel forgotten, angry, confused, or hopeless.

This gives us an opportunity to:

• Pray for those who are suffering.
• Comfort people who are grieving.
• Help when we have the opportunity.
• Encourage those who are afraid.
• Share God's love with others.
• Point people toward Jesus.
• Listen before speaking.
• Offer practical support to those in need.
• Refuse to spread rumors, panic, or unverified information.

Jesus did not call us to become people who spread fear.

He called us to become people who bring hope.

When the world becomes darker, we can become a reminder that God has not abandoned His people.

Sometimes, sharing hope does not require a long speech. It may be a kind message, a meal, a visit, a prayer, a helping hand, or simply sitting with someone who feels alone. Our actions can show people that the love of Christ is real.

We should never use another person’s pain as an opportunity to frighten or manipulate them. Instead, we should point them gently toward the God who sees, cares, saves, and remains faithful.

BREAK: Don't Live in Fear. Live Ready.

We may not know when Jesus will return.

We may not know what tomorrow will bring.

We may not know whether another war will happen or what disasters the world may experience.

But we can know this:

Jesus is our hope.

Jesus said:

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
Matthew 24:42

Being ready does not mean trying to figure out the date.

It means living faithfully today.

If Jesus came today, would we want to find ourselves living with hatred?

Would we want to remain trapped in unforgiveness?

Would we want to keep running away from God?

Would we want to continue hiding the parts of our lives we know need to be surrendered to Him?

Or would we want to be found trusting Him, following Him, loving people, forgiving others, and living according to His Word?

Readiness begins with a sincere relationship with Jesus. It means admitting that we need Him, believing in Him, receiving His grace, and allowing Him to change the way we live.

We do not become ready because we are perfect. We become ready because we belong to Christ and continue to return to Him with humility and faith.

We don't have to wait for the world to become perfect before we start following Jesus.

We don't have to wait until we feel strong enough, worthy enough, or prepared enough.

We can be ready today.

Today can be the day we pray honestly.

Today can be the day we ask for forgiveness.

Today can be the day we forgive someone else.

Today can be the day we open the Bible again.

Today can be the day we surrender our fears to God.

Today can be the day we begin walking with Jesus.

Reflection

Sometimes we look at everything happening in the world and ask:

“Lord, is this the sign that You are coming soon?”

But perhaps there is another question God wants us to ask:

“Lord, am I ready for You?”

We cannot control what will happen tomorrow.

We cannot control wars, disasters, or the decisions of nations.

But we can choose what we do today.

Today, we can pray.

Today, we can forgive.

Today, we can love.

Today, we can serve.

Today, we can turn back to God.

Today, we can place our trust in Jesus.

Today, we can encourage someone who is afraid.

Today, we can choose truth instead of rumors, compassion instead of judgment, and faith instead of panic.

Because the greatest preparation for Christ's return is not knowing when He will come.

It is knowing Whom we are waiting for.

Jesus is not only the One who will return. He is also the One who is with us now. He is present in our uncertainty, faithful in our suffering, patient with our weaknesses, and ready to receive everyone who comes to Him.

If you have been distant from God, you can return.

If you have been afraid, you can bring your fear to Him.

If you have failed, you can ask for forgiveness.

If you feel unworthy, remember that salvation is received by grace, not earned by human perfection.

The invitation is still open:

Come to Jesus. Trust Him. Follow Him. Be ready.

A Simple Response of Faith

If you want to respond to Jesus today, you can begin with a sincere prayer. The words do not need to be perfect. God looks at the honesty of your heart.

You may pray:

“Jesus, I come to You just as I am. I admit that I need You and that I cannot save myself. Please forgive my sins and cleanse my heart. Help me to trust You, follow You, and live according to Your Word. Teach me to love others, forgive freely, and remain faithful even when the world is uncertain. I surrender my fears, my plans, and my future to You. Thank You for Your grace and for the hope You give. I believe that You are Lord, and I choose to follow You. Amen.”

This prayer is not a magic formula. What matters is the genuine decision to turn to Jesus and continue walking with Him.

If you have already trusted Christ, let this be a reminder to renew your commitment. Do not allow fear, busyness, disappointment, or the noise of the world to pull you away from God.

Stay close to Him.

Keep praying.

Keep serving.

Keep loving.

Keep encouraging others.

Keep your hope in Jesus.

Closing Thought

The world may be uncertain, but our hope does not have to be.

We don't know when Jesus will come.

So instead of living every day in fear of the end, let us live every day ready to meet Him.

Let us be people who pray instead of panic, serve instead of ignore, encourage instead of discourage, and share hope instead of spreading fear.

Let us live in such a way that our faith is visible, not only in what we say, but also in how we treat people, how we respond to suffering, and how we remain faithful when life is difficult.

And when we feel afraid, let us remember that the return of Jesus is not bad news for those who belong to Him. It is the fulfillment of His promise and the beginning of everlasting joy in His presence.

Final Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for reminding us that You will come again. We do not know the day or the hour, but we trust Your promise.

When the world is filled with fear, help us not to be controlled by panic. Give us wisdom to understand what is happening, compassion for those who are suffering, and courage to bring hope to the people around us.

Search our hearts, Lord. Show us anything that keeps us far from You. Forgive our sins, heal our wounds, and help us release bitterness, pride, fear, and unforgiveness.

Teach us to live faithfully while we wait for Your return. Help us to pray consistently, love sincerely, serve humbly, and obey Your Word. Make our lives a reflection of Your grace.

For those who feel lost, draw them near.

For those who are afraid, give them peace.

For those who are grieving, surround them with comfort.

For those who have turned away from You, lead them back.

For those who do not yet know You, open their hearts to Your truth and love.

Help us to remember that our hope is not found in governments, predictions, possessions, or human strength. Our hope is found in You alone.

Keep us spiritually awake. Keep us faithful. Keep us ready.

Until the day You return, help us encourage one another and share Your hope with a world that desperately needs You.
