Ruth: A Story of God’s Favor

Ruth’s story begins in a difficult season. Naomi had experienced tremendous loss, while Ruth had left her homeland to remain with her mother-in-law. Together, they returned to Bethlehem without knowing what the future would hold.

Yet even when their circumstances seemed empty, God was already working.

Ruth did not know what lay ahead. Instead of remaining passive, she faithfully went to the fields to gather leftover grain so she could provide for Naomi and herself. What appeared to be an ordinary responsibility became part of God’s greater plan.

Ruth eventually found herself in the field of Boaz.

When Boaz noticed Ruth, he showed her extraordinary kindness. He protected her, allowed her to gather grain safely, and provided her with water. Ruth was surprised that he would show such favor to her, especially because she was a foreigner.

Boaz recognized Ruth’s faithfulness and the sacrifices she had made for Naomi. He told her that the Lord would reward her because she had come to seek refuge under God’s wings.

Ruth’s experience teaches us that God’s favor is not always seen in an easy or comfortable life. It is seen in His presence, provision, protection, and purpose.

There may be seasons when we feel empty, uncertain, or forgotten. We may not understand why certain things are happening. But Ruth’s story reminds us that the chapter we are living is not necessarily the end of our story.

Ruth Experienced God’s Favor in Her Emptiness

When life becomes painful, we may be tempted to question God or pull away from Him. But Ruth chose to remain with Naomi and continue moving forward, even during a difficult season.

When you experience disappointment, loss, or uncertainty, bring your emptiness to God. You may not see what He is doing yet, but His silence does not mean His absence.

Ruth Experienced God’s Favor Through Faithfulness

Ruth remained faithful in the ordinary responsibilities placed before her. She worked, cared for Naomi, and continued moving forward without knowing what would happen next.

Sometimes we ask God to do something extraordinary while overlooking the ordinary responsibilities He has already given us.

Be faithful in your work. Be faithful in your relationships. Be faithful in serving others. Be faithful in the small decisions you make each day.

God can use ordinary faithfulness to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

Ruth Experienced God’s Favor Through God’s Provision

Ruth’s decision to gather grain led her to Boaz, who became an important part of God’s provision for her and Naomi. What seemed like a simple step of obedience placed Ruth exactly where God wanted her to be.

God’s favor may come through unexpected people, opportunities, or circumstances. Even when we do not understand His plan, we can trust that He is able to provide what we need at the right time.

Ruth Experienced God’s Favor Through Redemption

Ruth eventually experienced God’s provision through Boaz, who became her redeemer. Her story ultimately points us toward Jesus Christ, our greater Redeemer.

Boaz helped restore what had been lost, but Jesus offers something far greater—redemption from sin and reconciliation with God.

So when you are waiting, do not lose hope.

When you cannot see the outcome, trust God’s timing.

When you feel empty, remember that God is still working.

Ruth’s life reminds us that God’s favor is not limited by our background, circumstances, or limitations. He sees those who trust Him, honors faithfulness, and works through ordinary moments to fulfill His greater purpose.

Like Ruth, we can experience God’s favor by trusting Him in difficult seasons, remaining faithful in ordinary responsibilities, and seeking refuge under His wings.
