When God Is Your Shepherd
We often worry about whether we will have enough money, enough success, enough security, or enough strength for tomorrow. Psalm 23:1 reminds us that when the Lord is our Shepherd, we do not have to face life alone.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1
There are times when we look at our lives and wonder, “Will I have enough?” Enough money to pay the bills. Enough opportunities for the future. Enough strength to handle our problems. Sometimes, we think that if we just had a better job, more money, or greater success, then we would finally feel secure.
But David reminds us of something deeper: the Lord is our Shepherd.
A shepherd takes care of his sheep. He leads them when they don't know where to go, protects them when they are in danger, and provides what they need. In the same way, God knows what we need even when we don't know what tomorrow will bring.
This verse doesn't promise that we will get everything we want or that life will always be easy. There may still be seasons of waiting, uncertainty, disappointment, and struggle. But we can trust that God will not abandon us in those seasons.
Sometimes, what we really need is not more things. We need more trust.
When we make God our Shepherd, we can stop carrying the pressure of having everything figured out. We can bring our worries to Him and say, “Lord, I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I trust You to lead me.”
Maybe today you are worried about your future. Maybe you are waiting for an opportunity, struggling financially, or simply feeling tired from trying to make everything work.
Remember: you may not have everything you want, but you have a Shepherd who knows exactly what you need.
And that can give us peace—not because everything around us is perfect, but because we know Who is leading us.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being my Shepherd and for caring for me in every season. When I am worried about the future, help me trust that You know what I need. Lead me when I feel lost, strengthen me when I feel tired, and give me peace when life feels uncertain. Help me release my fears and depend on You each day. Thank You for never abandoning me and for always walking beside me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
